2 Corinthians 4:16-18 Therefore we
do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing,
yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our
light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for
us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while
we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the
things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are
temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (NKJ)
All of us can agree that many times
life’s situations have a way of pressing in upon us. What we
see becomes the measure stick to the level of our happiness.
When this takes place, the enemy does his job of bringing
disillusionment and depression, and our vision becomes
hindered by all of the obstacles that we see. Yet God’s word
tells us that it is during these times that He is working
something in us that is refreshing and beautiful. We don’t
want to agree with this until we are through the situations,
but all of us can see back through some difficult times and
see His hand working out good in us. This passage of
scripture give us vision and hope during times of pressing.
As Christians we have been given the promise of Gods word,
that our current situations are working for us a far more
exceeding and eternal weight of glory. We all question this
by saying, I don’t see it, all I feel is the pain in it.
This is where faith comes in, we must arise in faith and
realize that God is there working something wonderful in us.
God had promised us in Romans 8:28 “And
we know that all things work together for the good to those
who love God, to those who are called according to His
purpose. This promise is not for the unbeliever but to the
believer. This revelation is the difference between you
walking in victory or walking in a defeated mentality. God
in His sovereign power, somehow works everything out for the
good. He can take the impossible and do something
incredible. This truth is the backbone of our faith, God is
faithful and He will not leave us nor forsake us. Even in
those times of rebellion and stubborn attitudes, once we
turn to Him, He takes it all and does a miracle in our
lives. I can’t explain the inner transformation that takes
place during testing, but it does. Paul tells them to not
look at the things that are seen, but the things that are
unseen. That which you see today is temporary and those who
live by the temporary are blind to the reality of blessing
that God has for them. Living this way we don’t see any
benefit in any situation that we don’t agree with because we
are living by sight, rather than by faith.
All through the bible we have examples of
those who allowed their temporary situation to dictate their
attitude toward their life and Gods care for them. He rebuke
them and said to them, ”where is you faith?” Jesus was with
them, but they defined God by what they saw, rather than by
what He said! Yes they were going to see the visual blessing
that He promised for them, but they were also going to be
set free and changed in the process. There is realm of
living that says, “God is for me, who can be against me?”
and as we remember the word of God, we fuel our faith for
the situation and we come through it with vision and hope.
My son told me the other day that he wanted to be tall like
his father. In the middle of the night he came into me
saying, “Dad, my legs hurting me, make them stop hurting!” I
told him, Jonathon, you want to be tall like dad, those
pains that you are feeling in your legs are the sign that
your body is growing. It is the same in our walk with God,
sometime we go through growing pain, and if we can rather
than look at our difficult surrounding, look to His word, we
too will embrace the process because it is the very thing
that is working the blessing in us. But it is during these
times that the devil attacks the hardest because our flesh
is screaming for escape. This is the time to press into God,
by prayer and worship and studying His word.
I believe that God is teaching us to
embrace the process as equal to the fulfillment. God is
working everything out for the good, because we love Him and
are called according to His purpose. Learn to see the
eternal that is God word for your situation. Don’t allow the
lies of the enemy to distort your circumstances, but stop
and say, God help me see what You are doing in my life. For
He promised that everything would work out for the good to
those who love Him. So rather than continue in frustration
and fear, arise in faith and live in the revelation of Gods
Word. Knowing that all things you are facing will end up
blessing you in some miraculous way! That is why Paul said,
“We don’t lose heart!” for God is working something for us
awesome!
